Introducing: The ATG Barbell Club

ATG BARBELL

Overview:

Introducing CrossFit 858’s barbell club:  ATG Barbell Club (or “Ass to Grass”)

This will be a novice to intermediate barbell club located at CrossFit 858.

The purpose of this barbell club is to help club members improve their Olympic lifts (Snatch, Clean and Jerk), as well as working their other barbell lifts (Press, Squat, Deadlift, Bench).

As members of ATG Barbell Club develop, they may be encouraged to participate in future lifting competitions.  This of course will be voluntary and optional.  Perhaps even an ATG Barbell Team may make an appearance in the future??

Working on your barbell lifts will have an overall benefit to your fitness, but namely help you become better CrossFitters.  Improvements in technique will lead to better WODs, which will lead to better fitness.

If you are an aspiring lifter, this is also your club.  There’s no feeling better than setting new PRs on your lifts and this club will help take you to the next level.

We will not simply be meeting and lifting the same lifts week after week.  There will be separate programming, separate lifts from the CrossFit 858 WODs.  This is a whole new program.

Who should join?

The answer is anyone.  BUT we do have some strongly recommended criteria:

  • Men combined 330-350 Snatch and Clean & Jerk
  • Ladies combined 175-200 Snatch and Clean & Jerk
  • 4-6 months of CrossFit experience (Don’t worry if you are brand new, we have something for you.  To be mentioned below)
  • an open mind and willingness to learn: bad habits are hard to break, but they can be broken and new ones built.  In order for this to happen you must be willing to learn an adapt.

Remember, these are recommendations not rules.  We wish to have everyone close in skill level so we can progress the class together vs teach basics (i.e. “here’s how you hook grip.”)

When are the classes?

Starting Thursday June 13th, ATG Barbell Club will meet twice a week.  Thursdays at 7pm and Saturdays at 10am.  Classes are one hour long in duration.  Thursday evening WODs will be replaced by ATG Barbell Club

Cost/How do I sign up?

  • ATG Barbell Club will be sold on a punch card system only, available on our Mindbody site HERE.
  • We offer 5 punches for $50.00 or 10 punches for $100.00
  • Your punches are only in effect when you attend the class and are checked in.
  • Classes are limited to 10 lifters per coach.  If we go over 10, then an additional coach will be brought in.
  • ATG Barbell Club Punch Cards are NOT good for CrossFit 858 regular classes nor membership.

What if I’m really new and just want to learn to do the basics?

We get it.  If you’re new and want to learn the basic positions and movements of the Snatch and Clean & Jerk, you will not be left out.  Starting in June, a coach will be in to run an Olympic Lifting 101 class during a Sunday Open Gym.  This  session will not go into advanced movement, but will be focused on helping the new CrossFitter (less than 3 months) improve on the basics.  Curriculum will be the same for each session and will be geared towards newbies.  This will be a FREE session for CrossFit 858 members and will occur simultaneously as Open Gym.

We hope that this is the answer to what many of you have been asking for.  I personally am always striving to bring new and more value to our community.  We look forward to seeing the ATG Barbell Club lifters at the first session.
