Coach Ian and CrossFit 858…

An Important Joint Letter to CrossFit 858 from Coaches Ian and Mark:

Dear CrossFit 858 Members and Friends,

It is with great sadness in my heart that I must tell you all that Tuesday February 28th will be, for now, that last class that I officially coach at CrossFit 858. Due to some growing pains/expansion and other changes we are experiencing at CrossFit Mission Gorge, I must devote more of my attention to that facility.

I would like you all to know that I am not leaving due to issues with Coach Mark or anything of that nature. In fact, behind the scenes Coach Mark and I have been discussing the possibility of me stepping back from coaching for almost a month now. Coach Mark and I are great friends, and me leaving CrossFit 858 will not change that fact.

Though I will no longer be coaching classes, I will still be very involved with CrossFit 858. I will continue programming all the workouts which have, in conjunction with the great coaching you received, provided you all with amazing results. You will also see me sweating right alongside with you, as I plan on still training with you all on occasion.

I have formed some great friendships at CrossFit 858 and those friendships will not change. I am proud of how far each and everyone of you have come, and I can’t wait to see even more positive changes in the future. I am literally at a loss for words to describe how proud I am of you all. CrossFit 858 has formed an awesome community and is developing some great CrossFit Athletes.

I will still consider myself a coach at CrossFit 858, and please know that you can contact me at anytime to discuss training or just to catch up.

Sincerely,

Coach Ian J. McHugh

To piggyback on Coach Ian’s words, this change is bittersweet to me. Although I am saddened, at the same time I cannot be happier for Coach Ian. With the growth of any business, comes the requirement of more time and energy from those who created it. I completely understand and support his decision.

I want to further emphasize Coach Ians involvement with CrossFit 858. The workouts that you have experienced, especially noting how they’ve been tailored to the athletes’ athletic growth, will continue to be the highest caliber/quality. He will still be available to you, as an additional resource to me, for any coaching questions.

I also want to publicly thank Ian for everything he has done. Back in the park wod days, when it was just the charter members, me, and a bunch of KB’s, cones, and medballs in my trunk, Coach Ian was behind the scenes helping me program and coordinate. He helped me plan the business side of things as well in preparation for affiliation with CrossFit HQ. His name will forever stay on the wall as a sign of gratitude and respect. CrossFit 858 is very much today, due to the contributions that Coach Ian helped to make. Ian is one of my best friends and will continue to be that. I wish him the best of luck and support if he needs it. It’s always been that way and will be. Also, as he stated, the door’s always open at CrossFit 858 if he can find the time to return in a physical coaching aspect.

Finally please remember that YOU, the members, are what makes CrossFit 858 special. The coaches are only a part of that. As long as you all continue to come in, work hard, play hard, support each other through the tough times and celebrate each others’ victories, NOTHING will ever change. Thank YOU, CrossFit 858, for doing what you do.

If any of you have any questions comments or concerns, you know I am always available.

Sincerely,

Coach Mark
