Laura Fonseca

Laura challenges herself mentally and physically with every workout, every day. She comes in with a positive attitude and ready to put in work. From day one she has trusted the process and has never once gotten discouraged. She doesn’t realize her own strength, and oftentimes surprises herself on what her body can do. Even despite the challenges that came with COVID shutting down the gym, she has made great progress on handstands, HSPU and pull-ups this year. She’s an example athlete in regards to listening to her body and scaling when needed. Congrats Laura, keep up the hard work!

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I started CrossFit around March 2019. I got invited to try it one day by our friends Bo and Kevin and I haven’t stopped coming since!

What got you hooked on CrossFit?

I was hooked immediately from the first time I went in because of the community. I remember my first day and the fact that everyone introduced themselves and took the time to say hello. I was blown away by the constant support and advice everyone was willing to give. 858 is truly an amazing,(sometimes kinda funky), extended family that I love.

What is your favorite movement?

 Power cleans!

Do you have any current goals you are trying to attain?

I’m really trying to chase down solid kipping pull-ups at the moment.

Do you have any advice for someone starting out in CrossFit?

My advice to anyone who is new is to have fun, be patient with yourself and enjoy the process. There’s going to be great days when you PR and days where you get frustrated that you’re not doing a movement as seamlessly but you will always be glad you went. Getting to see your progress over time with consistency makes it so worth it!

Fun Fact:

I’ve never broken a bone but I’ve had 5 minor concussions throughout my life (sports injuries mostly).

Israel “Izzy” Gonzalez

Our Mission Gorge member of the month is Izzy. You probably recognize him from our social media as he is well known for his photography and taking pictures of members in class. When he is not working hard on his business he is putting in work at the gym. He worked hard on his nutrition and exercise throughout quarantine and has continued getting after it in class 5 days a week. He has seen some massive strength gains and has improved his handstands and handstand walking. He consistently spends time after class working on improving these skills, so it’s no surprise that he has made so much progress in such a short amount of time. Thank you Izzy for everything you have done for us and our community, keep up the hard work- we see you!
